David Morris is one of the few remaining family-owned jewellers, and I’ve been fortunate to inherit from my father David a genuine passion to craft the most magnificent jewellery creations that I can conceive. When selecting coloured gemstones, I look for those with an ‘open’ colour – not too dark. My father always said that you should see the colour of the stone at night, as this is when you’re most likely to be wearing the pieces. That’s just one of his many of his pearls of wisdom garnered from spending a lifetime in high jewellery.
Our philosophy could be seen to encapsulate classic design, but with a twist. My inspiration comes from the uniqueness of the stones themselves, as well as from the connoisseurs collecting them. Once I’ve sketched the design, the journey is then completed in our on-site atelier where our very talented craftsmen bring my designs to life. We have one of the last remaining workshops on Bond Street and make full use of this luxury. As a designer, I’m always seeking inspiration, whether from art or nature. Seeing beautiful places and striking works of art also makes one strive to create beautiful things.
