For the first time ever Chanel HQ at 31 Rue Cambon will open the doors to anyone albeit only on the pages of their new book. The fans of the famous fashion brand are familiar of the atelier´s façade and its iconic mirror staircase, however, what happened on the upper floors so far has been terra incognita for the general public.

The book written by Laetitia Cenac and illustrated by Jean-Philippe Delhomme will be titled ´The Making of a Collection’. It tells about the atelier’s day-to-day life, the work on the Métiers d’Art 2018 collection, and Chanel’s Spring 2019 show. The history will be told in present tense will go further back towards the roots, the days after Coco Chanel opened her hat shop.

One of the chapters tells about what happens behind the scenes of Chanel fashion shows. Cenac says that just two days before the models hit the catwalk the heads of the atelier’s four workshops gather in a room to check on all of the dresses made for the show. These maitres are Odille Massuger, head of tailoring, Yvette Van Der Linde, head of the bag department, Rosemarie Eliot, master of accessories, and Laurence Dacade, head of the shoes department. Alongside the fabric director Kim Young-Seong they go through every single item.

Many of the brand’s solutions will be revealed on the pages of the book. This way Flore Vladaj, head of atelier flou dress design bureau, has unveiled a tailor’s secret: ‘Chanel dresses have a trick: they may look straight, but the truth is, they are all cone-shaped’, says Ms. Vladaj. ‘The shape follows the body silhouette without reveiling it’, adds the designer. Christine Allix, head of the famous suit atelier, told about the secrets behind Chanel jackets including the iconic chain stitched into the lower part in order to preserve the jacket’s shape.

Apart from all of the above, the book includes an article written by Karl Lagerfeld. The passing of the maître who presided over Chanel for over 40 years was a serious loss for the house. On June 20 Paris housed the Karl Lagerfeld memorial, and on July 2 his successor Virginie Viard presented her new collection.

Last July Dior fashion house, part of LVMH group, opened their first interior lifestyle-oriented boutique. The space which earlier used to house Dior’s glasses has been fully dedicated to Maison collection. The branded interiors made since 1947 have caused a stir at the latest Milan Furniture Fair where Dior presented 14 items finished in gold, silver, bronze, and steel made in cooperation with DimoreStudio. The items are available for pre-ordering.

Dior employees recalled Christian Dior’s quote ‘living in a house that doesn’t look like its owner is like wearing someone else’s clothes’. From now on multiple bright accents that may render any living space unique and cosy are available at a single shop. The first ever permanent collection is in tune with both today’s trends and Dior’s timeless classics. Blankets, pillows, tablecloths, and other textile pieces contain the legendary Toile de Jouy pattern which for this season is offered in burgundy and blue. Shelves display glass fish and porcelain monkeys. The cutlery is decorated with iconic bees, Dior’s favourite flowers, wood lilies, and Dior Cannage mesh which reminisces Napoleon III chairs that were offered to the guests at the maitre’s first ever show.

On July 20 the official royal Instagram account @sussexroyal published the cover of the British issue of Vogue that is to hit the stands in early August 2019. Back in January the duchess was offered an appearance on the cover. However, after a conversation with Meghan Markle Vogue´s editor Edward Enninful made an unprecedented decision to make the duchess a guest editor. The magazine´s September issue is considered the most important one as it sets the trends for the following year. This means that autumn of 2019 will be dedicated to the women who change the world.

The issue is dedicated to today’s burning issues such as body-positivity, xenophobia, and human rights. The issue is titled ‘Force for Change’. Meghan personally picked 15 heroines for the edition. The duchess says these women are on the front lines of fashion, cinema, technological progress, and struggle for healthier lifestyles. A lot of attention has been paid to politics and social activity. Among the heroines are Jacinda Ardern, 39, daughter of New Zealand’s Prime Minister who managed to unite the nation in the wake of mosque shooting, and Greta Thunberg, 16, young activist who drew the world’s attention to climate changes by staging a one-person rally in front of the Swedish Parliament. The black-and-white cover also features models Christie Turlington, Yara Shahidi, Adut Akech, and Adwoa Aboah (who was not allowed to have her freckles retouched by Meghan Markle herself), actresses Salma Hayek, Jane Fonda, Jameela Jamil, Gemma Chan, actress and LGBT activist Laverne Cox, authors Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Sinéad Burke, Somalian-born boxer Ramla Ali, and ballerina Francesca Hayward. The photographs were taken by the avid defender of natural beauty Peter Lindberg who has not worked for the British Vogue since 1992. The sixteenth spot on the cover was left blank. This is some sort of a mirror where every reader can see themselves and think about what they have done to change the world.

The issue portrays the world the way Meghan Markle would like to see it. In her editor’s note the duchess tells the story about how she worked on the issue during her pregnancy while enjoying the support of her husband and friends. Meghan herself talked about maternity in an interview with the former first lady of the United States Michelle Obama who had recently been awarded the Sesame Street prize, while Prince Harry spoke with a well-known anthropologist and United Nations Messenger of Peace Jane Goodall, OBE. Meghan is no newcomer when it comes to writing about relevant issues. Before she started dating Prince Harry she had written for Tig website where she spoke about herself, a healthy lifestyle, and talked to her readers. Vogue, however, has given her a much wider audience and a possibility to raise more complex issues such as extension of women’s rights and opportunities, mental health, racial issues, and privileges.

In the first hours after its publishing the cover gained just as much public momentum as Charlotte Casiraghi’s wedding and Royal Ascot. The public started wondering whether the problems raised in the issue have any relevance for the United Kingdom and why the cover does not show any member of the Royal Family. Vogue’s new issue became a subject for public discussion even while it has not been yet published. The disputes do not seem to be fading out any time soon.

Beyonce and her daughter Blue Ivy came to Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre which hosted the premiere of The Lion King. For the red carpet the singer picked a tuxedo dress by Alexander McQueen studded with crystals and combined it with diamond jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz. Being a trendsetter as usual Beyonce chose a luxurious and trendy outfit. The latest Paris Fashion Week showed that structured jackets, crystal embroidery, and flowing fabric are not going out of fashion any time soon. Seven-year old Blue Ivy donned a similar fashionable outfit: a long navy jacket with crystal epaulets and an embroiled chiffon skirt above the trousers.

The first screening of the remake of the iconic Disney movie was a family event. Apart from Blue Ivy many other celebrity children who voiced the characters were invited. Jamie Foxx brought his daughter Annalise Bishop, Kelly Rowland brought her son Titan, while Caleb and Mary Jo Deschanel came alongside their adult daughters Zooey and Emily.

The movie is coming to Russia soon. The premiere is scheduled for July 18.

Italy’s Dolce & Gabbana showcased their couture collection right after Paris Fashion Week. Beautiful Lifestyle has covered the most interesting shows of the latter. This season the brand’s most loyal clients joined the selected media representatives in Sicily where the story Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda line began back in 2012. The show took place outside the town of Agrigento, at the temple dedicated to the Greek goddess of marriage and harmony, Concordia. The brand’s officials spent two years negotiating with the authorities to get permission to hold the show at the pantheon built in 500 B.C. The venue was prepared for the show with ultimate attention and reverence. Wooden catwalks were put on several layers of sand to protect ancient stones from any effect.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana got inspired by ancient mythology and its cultural heritage and showed collections for men and women as well as a jewelry line. Apart from traditional dresses which mimicked togas ones worn by goddesses and Patricians the collection included skirts with reproductions of Jacques Louis David printed on them as well as a dress referencing the famous costume from the 1963 movie Cleopatra with Elizabeth Taylor starring.

All of the 125 characters of the women’s collection had numerous mesmerizing details: golden embroidery and silk painting, images of ancient vases and mosaics, homage to architecture, art, and religion, various jewels, and finally, flamboyant hats. Looks like nothing escaped the designers’ attention. The show turned into a real study of the ancient heritage. There were meshed capes worn, according to the legend, by priestesses of Astarte, nymphs donning light dresses decorated with flowers, portrayals of Artemis, Nike, Athena, and even a reimagined Hermes with his caduceus. The models crossed the catwalk and stopped next to the columns to stand still like ancient statues.

The show was attended by the brand’s friends and fans from all over the world including Anna Wintour, Hamish Bowles, Donata Meirelles, Anh Duong, Bruno Astuto, Simone MArchetti, Fernanda Fedak, Guilherme Siqueira, Alla Verber, Natalia Yakimchuk, Keterina Filatova, Oksana Marchenko, Stella Akimova, Olga Panchenko, Filipp Kirkorov, and many other guests.

On June 2 Paris’s Petit Palais hosted the show of Armani Privé collection which references well-known fashion of late 80’s and early 90’s. This summer’s Paris Fashion Week wasn’t quite rich in terms of A-list celebrities, however Nicole Kidman, Celine Dion, and Zendaya made sure to attend the show made by their favourite designer.

The large collection was split in two sections: the show started off with structured jackets and overcoats with light and wide trousers and followed with tender pastel-coloured dresses. Apart from that the collection could be divided by colour. The opening and closing styles were mostly finished in white and black whereas the dresses shown in between were mint green, powder pink, and purple. By far the most popular patterns were mesh and dots. The latter ranged from tiny embroidery pieces on lower skirts to large discs on dress bottoms and jackets.

Armani paid attention to every little detail of each showcased ensemble: from the plethora of shoes and bags to the makeup. Each model wore a fabric rose on their foreheads. Large pendant bead and crystal earrings have migrated from the previous collection. This trend does not seem to be going away any time soon. The stylists underlined the image of a charming modern woman which became the main character of the collection with an original solution: the brand’s chief makeup artist Linda Cantello used false eyelashes stemming all the way to the points of the long graphite arrows to create a mesmerizing open look.

All ensembles of the new collection by Giorgio Armani who has been a movie aficionado since he was a child are made for the red carpet. More celebrities choose suits for major galas, which means that we might expect to see more meshed and dotted black dresses alongside large-shouldered suits and silk palazzo trousers.

Zuhair Murad’s winter collection was inspired by 1970s, café society, and journeys across Northern Africa. Straight long dresses and capes reference traditional djellabas commonly worn in Marrakech. Decorated belts were showcased wrapped around slim-fit silk muslin, duchess satin, and silk taffeta dresses. The designer’s know-how has been inspired by African women. The collection revolves around paisley pattern, patterns of Moroccan carpets, and reimagined turbans which go perfectly together with couture dresses.

The collection’s deep colours remind about Oriental bazaars and palaces. Fabrics are finished in shades of henna, saffron, amber, pomegranate, amaranth pink, gold, and emerald, all of which are common in the East. The blend of ethnic details and modern trends gave birth to clothes that look like incarnated Oriental fairy tales: bustier dresses with off-shoulder cuts, traditional sleeves and shoulders decorated with feathers, and onesies embroiled with geometric patterns which practically create an optical illusion. Please note the dress with a contrasting skirt decorated with carpet-like patterns, and the wedding dress studded with beads and crystals.

The heroine of Zuhair Murad’s collection finds a perfect balance between modernity and the ancient culture. She respects traditional crafts and natural beauty, but still belongs to today’s world.

Noblesse Radicale, couture collection by Claire Wight Keller, turned out both reserved and theatrical. As the designer put it, she was inspired by the image of an anarchic woman pacing through a castle. Despite the noble origins of the show’s protagonist Ms. Keller warned the guests not to think of the heroine as a princess in a fairy tale castle.

The first ones to hit the catwalk were the models wearing black and white tweed dresses with thrum ends and feathers. The show continued with three-dimensional silhouettes filled with feathers, taffeta capes with Turkish ornaments, and long graphic style skirts with lacework, feathers, and paillettes. Male models donned thick jackets with silver embroidery combined with bright-coloured shirts with the ‘Turkish cucumber’ pattern. Besides the colourful couture solutions Givenchy showcased their metaphoric approach and Claire Wight Keller’s successful attempt to level up from the previous show.

The collection showcased two wedding dresses based on the image of a caged bird. Those were a revisited ball dress made of layers of pleated silk and a dress almost entirely draped with long white feathers.

The house also showed large pendant earrings and colourful plastic shoes which will most certainly stay in the trends for several seasons in the nearest future.
