Watches and Wonders Geneva Record figures for the 2023 edition

Watches and Wonders Geneva closes its 2023 edition with results that exceed expectations and best forecasts. All of its indicators are well above previous editions. The Salon confirms its trajectory as well as its position on the world watchmaking scene, thanks to controlled growth and a common voice.
The innovations were numerous, as were the expectations. Watches and Wonders has redoubled in creativity, innovation and openness in order to keep pace with a rapidly growing global watch market (24.8 billion Swiss francs in 2022).

Watches and Wonders Geneva 2023 closed with record figures, with 43,000 unique visitors (22,000 in 2022) over the whole week, 5,400 retailers, 125 nationalities, and 35,000 overnight stays, while the number of end-consumers doubled during the first five days.

The number of shares on social networks exceeded all expectations, with 1.8 million posts mentioning #watchesandwonders and an estimated reach of over 600 million people – more than half a billion – an all-time high.

An increase in the number of business visitors

The press recorded an increase of over 50% in attendance with the return of the Asian markets, i.e. a total of 1,400 journalists present in Geneva, with 13,000 registrations for the 1,800 Touch & Feel sessions enabling them to discover and handle the year’s new releases. Not to mention the 2,600 journalists who were able to follow the entire program online.

Retailers racked up more than 8,000 appointments, confirming the unfailing appeal of watchmaking in all its markets, particularly in Europe, which alone accounted for 70% of visitors.

The general public responded massively

All 12,000 tickets were sold out before the weekend started. Aside from the statistics, Watches and Wonders has proven its appeal to the younger generation: 25% of the tickets sold were purchased by people under 25, with an average ticket-holder age of 35. These visitors were particularly attracted to the LAB experience, which offered them a vision of the future of watchmaking. The Salon thus brings together and federates two to three generations at the same watchmaking crossroads.

This hub now extends well beyond Palexpo and offers the Salon new horizons. The “In the City” experience marks an important turning point in the development of Watches and Wonders Geneva, engaging the city and the general public who were drawn by special events in the boutiques and at other points of interest in the watchmaking capital. The Avener’s concert filled the quayside and had both locals and international visitors dancing to the rhythm of watch movements.

The official inauguration of Watches and Wonders Geneva 2023 was held on Monday, March 27 at 5:30 pm CET at Palexpo in the presence of representatives of the cantonal and municipal authorities and the 48 CEOs of the exhibiting Maisons.

During their speeches, Mr. Jean-Frédéric Dufour, President of the Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation – organizer of the Salon – and Mr. Mauro Poggia, President of the State Council of Geneva, emphasized the dynamism and importance of such an event for the watchmaking industry and for the Canton and City of Geneva. They also mentioned the need to speak to future generations and the importance of creating new vocations. It was an opportunity for the industry to come together and speak with one voice.

Twelve dancers from the Geneva Ballet then performed a short excerpt from Ukiyo-e readapted especially for the occasion. Choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

The ceremony ended at 6:00 pm CET with a ribbon cutting.

Watches and Wonders Geneva: A few days before the opening, what not to miss!

For the first time, the organizers have designed a two-part program: In the Salon at Palexpo and In the City in central Geneva. This rich and original program by day and by night will make Geneva the watchmaking destination par excellence. It will unveil the most hidden aspects of the industry’s craftsmanship and expertise, without ever losing sight of the new creations for 2023. Follow the Guide!

On April 1 and 2, Watches and Wonders Geneva, the largest watchmaking industry event ever held in Geneva, will open its doors to the public. Tickets can be obtained through the online ticketing at watchesandwonders.com.

Connoisseurs, enthusiasts and those who are simply curious will be able to discover the marvels of the 48 exhibiting Maisons, from the greatest historical watchmakers to independent workshops and artisans. From exceptional pieces and new collections to skilled craftsmanship, there will be something to satisfy every curious mind.

The future of watchmaking will be on show in the LAB area, while the exhibition ‘What time is it?’ by Karine Bauzin will give us a preview of the Swiss photographer’s work on her artistic perception of time. A visit to the Salon will reveal the year’s new creations and other exceptional pieces.

To find out more, head for the Auditorium. Themed talks will cover the key watchmaking news and trends throughout the weekend – in two languages. No registration required. The Salon will also run guided tours for small groups, several times a day.

A festival in three words: In the City

In parallel, for the first time, Watches and Wonders will also be present in the heart of its host City. This festival of watchmaking, called In the City, will be free and open to everyone. Visitors can therefore wander freely through the Rues Basses of the city center and spot the WandW display columns. This will be the sign that the boutiques have surprises in store: including historical pieces, demonstration workshops, a chance to chat with the watchmakers, a preview of new pieces, etc. To add spice to the experience, an interactive watch rally has been organized especially for the occasion. Using the QR codes scattered along a route, the public will be able to discover the participating boutiques and emblematic sites.

When the sun goes down, In the City will continue to beat in the heart of Geneva: on March 30, all the participating boutiques will stay open until 9pm, while a special program has been created for this evening of festivities. Artists, dancers and musicians will take over five stages along the streets, beginning at 5pm. At the Pont de la Machine, a conference on “Geneva, Switzerland and Watchmaking” will be open to all who register. A collection of food trucks will be stationed at the city’s main crossroads with one objective: get ready for a free concert from the celebrated DJ/Producer The Avener at Quai du Général Guisan, at 8pm.

The heart of Geneva will be beating to the rhythm of watch movements from March 27 to April 2, 2023. The wonder of watchmaking is within everyone’s reach!

Oscars 2021: the future of the ceremony

Beautiful Lifestyle Magazine will tell you what is changing in the annual Academy Awards.

The COVID-19 pandemic is making its adjustments to the film industry. Each year the celebrities walk down the red carpet in their beautiful dresses, the winners give their honorary speeches, while the witty hosts joke on everything. But what to expect from the Oscars in the upcoming 2021?

First, the changes affected the criteria for applying for participation in the award. On September, 8th it was officially announced that, from 2024, racial and gender diversity in the caste composition would become mandatory criteria for participation in the competition. For example, at least one of the leading or supporting roles must belong to racial minorities.

But what about the date and format of the future award? At the moment, the award has been postponed to April 25th. As a result, the deadline for applying was extended until February 28th. Because of this, all nominees will be announced no earlier than March 15th.

It can be assumed that one of the nominees, and most likely the favorite of the festival, will be Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet,’ which managed to attract the attention of viewers around the world. It will also likely focus on films and animations by streaming platforms like Netflix.

The question about the red carpet remains open, but we hope that by the end of April, the pandemic will subside, and the stars will be able to wow us with luxurious designer outfits.

Regatta Friday hosted in Moscow by Beautiful Lifestyle Magazine and PROyachting

On August, 14 Beautiful Lifestyle Magazine, as part of the Beautiful Experience travel and events club, together with PROyachting and the Romanoff Club, held the second regatta in Moscow at Vodniy Stadium.

Beautiful Lifestyle Magazine organized the event. The partners of the event were: the exquisite wine company Wines Deluxe, the flower workshop Delia Flowers, the event company Romanoff Club, as well as the PROyachting company, which provided the necessary equipment and conducted training for the guests of the event.

PROyachting is famous for its high-quality yachting service. The guests of the event were trained by qualified specialists. Each yacht skipper is a member of the Russian sailing team. PROyachting has also provided the best sailing yachts for the regatta, with J70 currently used in training and racing.

Despite the chilly weather, the Regatta Friday event was held at the highest level. Before the start of training and the race, the guests of the event enjoyed delicious cocktails prepared according to the bartender’s original recipes. Then each team got an experienced skipper, and the race began.

This time, four teams entered the race. The third place was taken by team C, the second by team B, and the honorable first place was taken by team A. All participants received gift certificates to the Delia Flowers flower workshop and Zhukoffka Plaza. The winners and prize-winners also won the medals, and Team A won the Regatta Winner Challenge Cup, established by Beautiful Lifestyle magazine and the Romanoff Club.

After the race, the guests of the event went to dinner at a restaurant on the territory of the yacht club at the Vodniy Stadium, where they could enjoy pleasant company and gastronomic cuisine overlooking the picturesque bay.

The next regatta will take place at the Vodniy Stadium on August 21.

Classical and contemporary art under the roof of the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona

Teatro Liceo in Barcelona played its first opera for an unusual audience: the stalls were filled with houseplants.

Countries around the world are starting to ease quarantine measures, and social life is slowly returning to normal. Theaters, museums, and modern art galleries begin to open.

To celebrate the opening of the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona, contemporary conceptual artist Eugenio Ampudia proposed a performance in which Giacomo Puccini’s Chrisantemi was played for 2,292 houseplants.

According to the artist, he was inspired by the singing of birds, which he listened to during his self-isolation. Representatives of the theater noted that they were happy to take part in such a symbolic performance that combines the values of art, music, and nature.

After the performance, all plants were donated to medical staff as a thank you for their courage and dedication.

Moscow International Film Festival XLI Closing Ceremony

Closure of XLI Moscow International Film Festival and the award ceremony took place on April 25.

The award ceremony was housed by Rossiya cinema. The St. George award was given by Kim Ki-duk to Kazakh director Farhat Sharipov for his movie ‘The Secret Of A Leader’. This year’s best director is Valerio Mastandera from Italy awarded for ‘Laughing’. The jury’s special award was given to China’s Zhang Chi for ‘In Search Of Echo’. People’s choice award was given to Lyubov Borisova for ‘The Sun Above Me Never Sets’.

The festival week was full of screenings and parties held for actors, directors, producers, and everyone related to the world of movies. On April 24 Chopard held a festive dinner party and gave out awards to young and promising actors. The awards were handed out by Caroline Scheufele, co-president and creative director of Chopard, who arrived in Moscow for the occasion. The winners of this year’s Chopard Talent Award are actress Elizaveta Yankovskaya noted for the movie titled ‘The Story Of An Appointment’ and Aleksandr Kuznetsov for ‘Acid’.

Last Thursday the closing ceremony was attended by numerous celebrities who dazzled the guests and photographers with their best outfits and jewelry by Chopard, the festival’s sponsor. Tatiana Mikhalkova, Irina Bezrukova, Tatiana Navka, Anna Snatkina, Kristina Asmus, Ekaterina Volkova, and Maria Kozhevnikova were among the guests to walk on the red carpet.

Gentlemen’s night at Zhukoffka Plaza

The wine boutique in Repino, outside St. Petersburg, hosted a closed ‘gentlemen’s night’ in partnership with Zhukoffka Plaza, Lamborghini St. Petersburg, and Moss Apartments.

The idea of closed gentlemen’s clubs originated in London to help men hide from prying eyes, light a cigar, have a glass of whiskey, and share the latest news with their friends. After several successful club nights in Moscow the project made it to St. Petersburg for the first time ever. The cosy space offered by the partners of the event Zhukoffka Group hosted a unique exhibition of oriental weaponry.

While the gentlemen were engaged in studying the exhibited sabers and rifles showcased by the gallery curators, the ladies enjoyed a calligraphy master class. The guests were catered with collection wines offered by Zhukoffka Group’s boutiques and fingerfood cooked for the occasion by Z-Bufet’s chefs. At the summer terrace the guests could enjoy some delicious BBQ offered by Stroganof Bar & Grill while listening to some guitar music accompanied by the bellows of Lamborghini’s new models URUS and Huracan.
