The COVID-19 pandemic is making its adjustments to the film industry. Each year the celebrities walk down the red carpet in their beautiful dresses, the winners give their honorary speeches, while the witty hosts joke on everything. But what to expect from the Oscars in the upcoming 2021?
First, the changes affected the criteria for applying for participation in the award. On September, 8th it was officially announced that, from 2024, racial and gender diversity in the caste composition would become mandatory criteria for participation in the competition. For example, at least one of the leading or supporting roles must belong to racial minorities.
But what about the date and format of the future award? At the moment, the award has been postponed to April 25th. As a result, the deadline for applying was extended until February 28th. Because of this, all nominees will be announced no earlier than March 15th.
It can be assumed that one of the nominees, and most likely the favorite of the festival, will be Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet,’ which managed to attract the attention of viewers around the world. It will also likely focus on films and animations by streaming platforms like Netflix.
The question about the red carpet remains open, but we hope that by the end of April, the pandemic will subside, and the stars will be able to wow us with luxurious designer outfits.
