The brand has decided to apply environmentally friendly trends to their strategy and launch a line titled Earth Polo with all items entirely made of recycled plastic.
The collection is made in cooperation with First Mile, an organization aiding other companies in producing items out of secondary raw materials. The polyester used to make the polo shirts is retrieved from recycled plastic bottles picked up in Taiwan. It took 12 bottles to make each shirt. The fabric was tinted with the use of a new waterless technology which turned a normally harmful process into a totally environmentally friendly one.
By 2025 the brand plans on using at least 170,000,000 bottles picked up in the ocean or at scrapyards. Head of Ralph Lauren’s innovation department David Lauren says: ‘Every day we’re learning about what’s happened with global warming and what’s happening all around the world, and our employees and our customers are really feeling that it’s time to step up and make a difference’.
This collection is set to be one of the brand’s first steps towards conscious production. Polo shirts for men and women are available in four colours seen on our planet from the space — ocean blue, white, green, and sky blue — and sold in eco-friendly packaging.
