On May 27, Mike Pompeo, who is the US Secretary of State, announced that Hong Kong lost its autonomy from China. The reason for this statement was the resolution that allowed to impose national-security laws on Hong Kong development of a new bill on national security in China. In response, China demanded that the United States stop interfering in Chinese internal affairs.
The new law will allow China to maintain control over Hong Kong, as it bans any separatist activities. The resolution has triggered mass protests in Hong Kong among its citizens.
